Leave your cameras at home
Magnificent Huawei P20 Pro stuns us, pony lovers, with its unicorn colored back! But with its amazing camera capabilities and top performance, there’s more than meets the eye. It’s time to get excited. Let’s have a look and see how the Huawei P20 Pro measures up in terms of performance.Long awaited Huawei P20 Pro has the world’s first three lens Leica camera. Having the artificial intelligence support, P20 Pro leaves everyone in envy with its great looks, its abilities and jumping in front of its competitors. I’ll start with the first impressions. As you see Huawei I’ve tested the extraordinary Twilight color. The best shade of purple degrading to a magnificent shade of blue is absolutely amazing. And no, please relax, I’m not getting payed for this post. This is just me, falling in love with a gadget. But I must admit it looks a lot like the iPhone X and it’s not a good thing. I like extraordinary gadgets more. I may call Twilight color extraordinary but the design resemblance is flagrant. Huawei P20 Pro is sporting the same notch we all got used to with iPhone X and the vertical cameras are supporting the look. I wish Huawei had its own vision for mobile phone design but the amazing Twilight color somewhat compensates for the look. There’s also Midnight Blue and Black color options if you’re looking for something more modest.
The fingerprint sensor is placed on the front face of the device. Regarding this sensor, as a technology editor more than 10 years, I must say I’ve never seen anything faster than this. By the way, as we’re mentioning fingerprints, the back of the Huawei P20 Pro is like a mirror and definitely not fingerprint friendly. You must wipe your device all day long to get rid of the fingerprints. But I think it’s another chance to show off your device. At the back of the phone, if you can take your eyes of the amazing color, the triple camera system attracts your attention at first glance. Vertically placed cameras are Leica Camera System and decorated with Leica logos. When shooting on the horizontal mode, Huawei P20 Pro resembles a compact Leica camera.
FULLVIEW SCREEN AND FACIAL RECOGNITION
Huawei P20 Pro sports a 6.1 inch OLED FullView screen. Side bars are reduced to a minimum as much as possible and the notch is smaller than its competitors. This leaves Huawei ahead of its game. I know you get tense as I mention the notch but please don’t. You get used to it and even though it’s there the whole time, you don’t notice it at all after a little use. But if you really want to get rid of it, you can turn it off in the settings. I didn’t even think about it but since it’s annoying to use the apps that are incompatible with the notch in Android, it’s an option to just switch it off if you don’t want to use it. It’s bothersome that even Instagram doesn’t support the notch in Android.
I can hear you say “How come the notch is smaller than the notch iPhone X?” It’s all in the technology. Since Huawei doesn’t use as mush technology for the facial recognition as iPhone does for the facial recognition, they’ve managed to minimize the notch. As a side note, facial recognition on P20 Pro is as fast as its fingerprint sensor. I must say even though it is less technologically advanced, it’s working faster than the iPhone X. But having a fingerprint sensor this fast, I don’t think you’ll ever use facial recognition to unlock your phone.
Huawei P20 Pro has a great battery life. With Huawei Kirin 970 processor coupled with SuperCharge powered 4000 mAh battery gives a flawless experience. In my opinion it’s one of the best. It charges fast and lasts long. One thing about charging, I’ve experienced a slight problem charging in my car. On bumpy rides the screen turns on and constantly tries to recognize my face constantly. And since the screen is on all the time, it charges slowly. Turning off the facial recognition helped a little but didn’t solve the issue completely. Charging table top is much faster.
As I’ve mentioned above, Huawei P20 Pro sports world’s first Leica triple camera system supported with AI. Transforming photography by light fusion technology, Hybrid Zoom and stunning low-light performance. When camera is evaluated with all of its features, I can say Huawei P20 Pro to the highest ranked camera phone and deserves its ranking at DxOmark. If you’re looking for the best video performance, I must say is does not meet the highest standards compared to its competitors but it is, however, still one of the top ranking camera systems. With x3 optical zoom, it’s leading in optical zoom capabilities which is essential for any photography lover because unlike digital zoom, optical zoom doesn’t decrease the image quality at all. P20 Pro also has a hybrid zoom function which helps you to zoom x5. It’s good but not as great as the optical zoom.
Huawei P20 Pro is one of the best devices to carry in your pocket. If you like taking photos and loved the Twilight color as much as we did, we’d advise you to go to a store and see it with your own eyes.
